MISTAKE DRIVERS MAKE WITH TRAFFIC TICKET

The siren and the flashing lights is not a source of comfort for any motorist. When it happens our first instinct is to react to a danger we presume is near. This is the ordeal of drivers on our busy streets. When it is not the fire truck it is the police car or some other Emergency Vehicle. Some of us would like to avoid them but in our crowded cities it’s more likely that we will have to live with this annoying deviation. At some point in your driving experience you will inevitably receive a citation for traffic violation or an infraction. The Police Office will write you a ticket and most likely you will end up before a Judge or a Magistrate.
If you are one of the unfortunate motorists who receive a traffic ticket you have a few options to deal with it.
(a)    You can check the guilty box and pay the fine.
(b)    You can check the “not guilty” box and request an hearing in traffic Court.
(c)    You can pay an Attorney to argue your case.
Most people can’t find the time to go to Court so they just pay the fine and be over with it. Others opt for the other two options.  Maybe those who pled guilty and pay the fine avoid the headache but often time they are the losers because record shows their guilty plea and they end up paying full penalty.
Those who decide to take their chances in Court often get a better deal but there is a risk involved. On your first court date most Judges will offer you a deal to reduce your fine, points on your license or both in exchange for your admission to guilt. My advice is that if you have the slightest doubt about winning your case; take the deal. If you turn it down and decide to fight the charge and you lost the Court will let you pay the full fine including Court cost in some states. Many people make this mistake.
You also have a third option in retaining the service of an attorney to settle your case. With this option you must realize that if your case falls apart you will have to pay the fine and all that goes with it including the Attorney’s fee. Again, many people make this mistake.
Just remember that  police are a law office and his or her testimony will have more weight in court than yours. Another point to take into consideration is being careful how you present your case to the Judge. You may be right and you can prove your case but if you’re is too long or repetitive the Court will dismiss your argument and fine you. If you cannot defend yourself in less than five minutes the Judge may lose patience listening to you and fine you. Don’t forget that It’s not in the interest of the Court to waste time or to lose money, or even to discredit a police officer’s testimony, so be careful what you ask for and avoid making a mistake.

RISE OF THE EBOOK

The Electronic book widely known as the eBook has taken the world like a storm. Traditional book stores such as Barnes & Nobles, Borders and Walden’s are closing many of their stores in very high traffic areas. The days when you go to the store and buy your favorite book, meet your buddies, read and exchange ideas are fast disappearing. The blogs and eBooks are now the prominent domains for reading material. There is however a problem with accessing and using eBooks. Many eBooks are not as well written as traditional books, but then again there is the advantage of more efficient production of these books over the traditional paper books.

Another advantage is that educational and reference eBooks sell for less and is easier to carry around on your computer than a bag over your shoulders. Lower end eBook are often more expensive than paper books that are similar in content. This is largely because the vendors on Clickbank and PayDotCom try very hard to keep the market competitive and profitable. Note also that the life of the eBook is very short (with the exception of certain traditional books such as the Bible which has been converted into an eBook) because people are always looking for the newest content to publish and read. High School and College students seem to be the main benefactors of the e book because they know how to use it.
The fear of downloading the eBook
A large segment of our population is fearful of downloading the eBook. These individuals express fear of getting viruses on their computers, the fear is unfounded because it would defeat the purpose of a publishers to give you content with virus as this would only destroy their businesses. EBooks are very safe to download. Another problem with using eBooks for some people is that they think that they have to print the eBook. If this is the case there would be no need to create it. It would be easier to go to the Library and grab the book you want to read. The main purpose of the eBook is to make reading material more accessible and searchable. Anyone can just turn on their computer, use a keyword to search for the reading content, read the portion you want to read, book mark it, highlight it, save it, print what you want and go. It is so easy even a child can do it. It is also the reason for the popularity and rise of the eBook.

MID-NIGHT CRY

MID-NIGHT CRY
There is a story in the Christian Bible about ten Virgins of whom five were wise and five were foolish. According to this epic piece of drama told as a parable by the historic Jesus Christ, they were all waiting for the Bridegroom to appear. They all hoped to get married, have a feast and go on their long honeymoon with the Groom.

Some may say that this story does not sit well with our western culture because we are a monogamous society. For a groom to have ten potential brides is polygamy, a violation of our laws and contrary to our western way of thinking. We can  however take comfort  in the fact that it’s a parable, meaning that the story never happened; it is meant to open our eyes to mistakes that we can make and may never recover from.

As the story continued, the virgins were supposed to meet their groom in the night so in order for him to see them, each  was required to carry a lamp. Unfortunately however, only five of the ten virgins had oil in their lamps. Those without were stumbling at the last minute to find oil and eventually there was no more time to purchase oil, already it was too late for them.
This story reminds me of our representatives in government and top business executives who seem to be never prepared for what’s coming. The world is changing so fast and they are so empty that they cannot anticipate disaster soon enough to avert it or take corrective action, the innocent and the vulnerable are left to suffer the consequences of their willful negligence. It is no wonder there is so much crisis and economic failures in our world today.

Failure to act before the last moment is often the reason for confusion and  mass hysteria. Failure to anticipate market conditions, failure to anticipate food shortages, failure to find ways to put an end to wars that only drain their economies and plunge nations into poverty, pestilence and disease, failure to manage greed and violence, failure to govern effectively, failure to act before a crisis sets in, and failure to manage the resources of the world in a fair and equitable manner so that peoples of the planet can enjoy its bounty.

Let’s hope that the day will come when we find a method to elect only the wise virgins who can answer the mid-night cry.

STUPID MISTAKE

STUPID MISTAKE
IS THE SCALE OF JUSTICE OUT OF BALANCE?

How our system of justice deals with mistake is a debate we need to have. Our Florida Courts have recently tried two cases where the defendants have been deemed to commit a homicide due to mistake and stupidity. These are the famous cases of the State Vs Casey Anthony in Orange County, Orlando, and in the other, the State Vs Jaren Hare and Charles Darnell in Sumter County, Florida.
In the case of Casey Anthony many people agreed that her daughter may have been the victim of an accident but her behavior and the lies that she told the Authorities made her look guilty of willful homicide.
On the other hand, Jaren and Charles admitted to negligence and were found guilty of manslaughter in the 3rd degree. This means that they will serve time in prison. Is our scale of justice unbalanced? Why should a person who confesses to a mistake be given a hard sentence and one who lies about it be given a slap on the risk and allowed to go free? For those who are perplexed about this it is not hard to understand but the law cannot always determine whether a person genuinely made a mistake or is claiming to have made one to avoid justice.
Justice is not about sympathy; it is more about accountability. It is about the crime, who committed it, and the penalty to be paid. It is for the very reason why Casey was not punished for her alleged crime. The Jury did not have sufficient evidence to prove that she committed the crime so that they could without a doubt hold her responsible. In the case of Jaren Hare and Charles Darrell however, there were sufficient evidence to hold them responsible.
Just think for a moment. If the Court should dismiss the mistakes of people just how many others would get hurt? How would we know who have made genuine mistakes and others who are lying? Many people have been warned before they make their so called mistakes, and others have seen a clear and present danger but choose to ignore it because it makes them happy or it helps them to achieve their goals. The laws are made to protect all and not just a few. therefore if we look at it emotionally the scale of justice will always be out of balance.
